LONDON, March 21 (UPI) - The British drug giant GlaxoSmithKline said on Thursday it would pay $10 billion in interest to settle allegations it had illegally marketed unapproved erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs, which include Viagra and Cialis.
The company said in a statement that the settlement, filed in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, will include the legal fees it paid to the government’s consumer health claims office.
The suit was brought by the plaintiffs against Glaxo, which is the parent company of GlaxoSmithKline, as well as a number of other pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer and Novartis.
The company has agreed to pay the $10 billion and agreed to pay a further $5 billion in settlements, which would cover the company’s marketing of the erectile dysfunction drugs and the company’s marketing of the other erectile dysfunction drugs.
